# Networks

GenLayer operates as two layers: the **GenLayer RPC** handles intelligent contract operations (`gen_*` methods), while the **GenLayer Chain** is the underlying Arbitrum Orbit L2 that handles standard Ethereum operations (`eth_*` methods). The GenLayer RPC also passes through supported `eth_*` calls to the underlying chain, so you can use either endpoint for standard wallet operations.

For the full RPC reference, see [GenLayer Node API](/api-references/genlayer-node).

For transfers and staking, connect to the **GenLayer Chain RPC**. Intelligent-contract methods such as `gen_call` require a **GenLayer node RPC**; the Conduit chain RPC does not provide them. Use a Phase 2-compatible GenLayer node endpoint for SDK intelligent-contract operations.

## Testnet Bradbury

Production-like testnet with real AI/LLM workloads.

| Setting | Value |
|:--|:--|
| **GenLayer RPC** | Use the Phase 2 node RPC published in the release announcement, or your own qualified node |
| **GenLayer Chain RPC** | `https://rpc.testnet-chain.genlayer.com` |
| **Chain ID** | 4221 |
| **Currency** | GEN |
| **Validator / staking UI** | [stakegen.com](https://stakegen.com/explore/) |
| **Chain Explorer** | [scan.testnet-chain.genlayer.com](https://scan.testnet-chain.genlayer.com/) |
| **Faucet** | [testnet-faucet.genlayer.foundation](https://testnet-faucet.genlayer.foundation) |

> **Warning:**
> Bradbury Phase 2 reuses chain ID **4221**. Verify block zero has hash `0x17d89764d4f4f963158fc4c5e8f2cb670c2837740b35f37081c12860c3df97e4`, and the AddressManager is `0x3F71AE080BD6270A91dBcc7960d88797828538E0`. An old RPC can return the right chain ID but lead to a different deployment. If a public domain returns a different genesis, stop and have its routing corrected.

The GenLayer Chain WebSocket is `wss://rpc.testnet-chain.genlayer.com` and requires an API key. Create a key at [app.conduit.xyz/rpc-keys](https://app.conduit.xyz/rpc-keys) and configure it as `GENLAYERNODE_ROLLUP_GENLAYERCHAINRPCKEY` in the node environment (or the `.env` next to `docker-compose.yaml`). Never add it to URLs or `config.yaml`. Resolve Staking and ConsensusMain through the AddressManager instead of treating their initial addresses as permanent network identity.

Public domains above are the intended release endpoints. Check their readiness and the faucet's target network before transferring funds; do not assume old balances or registrations carry over.

## Studionet

Hosted development environment — no local setup required.

| Setting | Value |
|:--|:--|
| **GenLayer RPC** | `https://studio.genlayer.com/api` |
| **Chain ID** | 61999 |
| **Currency** | GEN |
| **Explorer** | [explorer-studio.genlayer.com](https://explorer-studio.genlayer.com) |
| **Faucet** | Built-in — use the 💧 button in the account selector |

---

## Studio development preview

Release-candidate environment for testing the next Studio and consensus stack before it is promoted to Studionet. State and availability are not guaranteed across deployments.

| Setting | Value |
|:--|:--|
| **Studio web app** | [studio-dev.genlayer.com](https://studio-dev.genlayer.com) |
| **Canonical GenLayer RPC** | `https://studio-dev.genlayer.com/api` |
| **Chain ID** | 61997 |
| **Currency** | GEN |
| **Explorer** | [explorer-studio-dev.genlayer.com](https://explorer-studio-dev.genlayer.com) |
| **Faucet** | Built-in — use the 💧 button in the account selector |

> **Warning:**
> Use the matching release-candidate SDK or CLI and its explicit `studioDevnet` / `studio-dev` network preset. Do not relabel the stable `studionet` preset: the environments have different chain IDs and deployments. If `studio-next.genlayer.com` is enabled as a browser alias for this same environment, integrations should still use the canonical `studio-dev.genlayer.com/api` RPC.

## Localnet

Local development with full control. Requires [GenLayer Studio](/developers/intelligent-contracts/tools/genlayer-studio) or [GLSim](/api-references/genlayer-test/glsim).

| Setting | Value |
|:--|:--|
| **GenLayer RPC** | `http://localhost:4000/api` |
| **Chain ID** | 61127 |
| **Currency** | GEN |
| **Explorer** | Bundled with Studio at `http://localhost:8080` |
| **Faucet** | Built-in — use the 💧 button in the account selector |

---

## GenLayer Chain (L2)

The underlying Arbitrum Orbit L2 for Bradbury Phase 2. You typically don't need to interact with this directly — the GenLayer RPC passes through supported `eth_*` calls. But if you need direct L2 access (e.g., token transfers, contract debugging at the EVM level), you can add this chain to your wallet.

| Setting | Value |
|:--|:--|
| **RPC** | `https://rpc.testnet-chain.genlayer.com` |
| **Chain ID** | 4221 |
| **Currency** | GEN |
| **Explorer** | [scan.testnet-chain.genlayer.com](https://scan.testnet-chain.genlayer.com/) |

## Network Comparison

| | Bradbury | Studionet | Studio dev | Localnet |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| **Purpose** | Production-like testing | Hosted stable dev | Next-stack RC validation | Local dev |
| **Setup** | None | None | Matching RC tooling | Docker or GLSim |
| **Persistence** | Persistent | Temporary | Temporary; resets expected | Local only |
| **LLM execution** | Real models | Real models | Real models | Configurable |
| **Faucet** | [Available](https://testnet-faucet.genlayer.foundation) | Built-in | Built-in | Built-in |

## Recommended Flow

1. **Start on Studionet** — zero setup, open [studio.genlayer.com](https://studio.genlayer.com)
2. **Use Studio dev only for release-candidate validation** — open [studio-dev.genlayer.com](https://studio-dev.genlayer.com) with the matching RC tooling
3. **Move to Localnet** — when you need full control and fast iteration
4. **Deploy to Bradbury** — when ready for production-like testing with real AI workloads
